Seventy percent of our planet is covered by water, and somewhere between 60-75 percent of the composition of our own physical bodies is water. Just as our planet needs to be constantly replenished with clean, fresh water in order to thrive, so indeed do we.

You probably know that the trillions of cells in our bodies contain and bathe in water, but did you ever picture what this looks like? As a writer, I think in metaphors, often understanding something complex in a flash of intuition from seeing a picture. So when I began musing about how to create a way to help you truly understand the importance of water for your body, I began browsing Google images for ideas.

We make ourselves small

We make ourselves small
when we think it is only about losing weight.

When we focus on this one thing as though it is the answer.
Trying one program after another.
Another guru,
another strange and limited idea.

We fail to see that we don’t understand
how our wondrous bodies function.

It’s not our fault.

So many experts.
So many truths now overturned.
Too much money at stake.
Too many reasons to hide truth.

We can’t change all this.
But we can change ourselves.

We can open our minds and grasp
that this is about more than
a jelly donut
or a piece of cake
or a 1600 calorie Smoothie at Starbucks
or a 2900 calorie meal at the Olive Garden.

We can learn about stuff like . . .

I’m getting the final pieces completed so I can start the Beta Test for my guided learning course about how to create a personal fitness lifestyle. The process I’ve developed is beautifully simple, but I got lost in the land of More when I began writing the Sales Page.

First I wrote a Simple page, but then I looked at other people’s Sales Pages that offered more information, more benefits, more, more, more. And my simple little page didn’t look so good to me. I’ll never forget the day I really got, at a visceral level, that there was no possible way I could ever truly see the world through someone else’s eyes.

I’ve never been one to make a big deal about special occasions like holidays, anniversaries, or birthdays.

My own birthday became even more of a non-event on September 11, 2001, the morning I was called by one of my trainers while I was driving to Kinko’s. He was at LAX waiting for his plane to Chicago. I was on my way to the office in Ventura looking forward to the traditional birthday cupcakes. And then the world as we knew it changed forever.

I decided to make turkey rolls for lunch, so I went out to the garden to pick a big chard leaf and a few pieces of mustard greens. Greg was sitting on the deck, and I mentioned to him that the mockingbirds were hanging out in the garden again this morning, but they still were not singing. We remarked about how unusual it was for mockingbirds to be so quiet.

I had an injury a few weeks ago that has prevented me from walking for any decent distances. I’m finally getting better and have begun working my way back into my routine, but I feel skittish about it — I have the feeling that I must be careful or I will be back where I started.

Learning at warp speed . . .

Last year my best buddy and I read Brene Brown’s The Gifts of Imperfection and decided to work our way through her Ten Guideposts to Wholehearted Living. This year Greg and I thought about what we wanted for Christmas and decided that our gifts should have something to do with fitness. One day I was driving past the Ojai Lumber Yard and saw a sign for pre-made, gopher-proof planter boxes. Since the extraordinary number of gophers in the back yard of our new home is the reason we have thought twice about starting a vegetable garden, I decided to stop and see what the lumber yard had come up with.
